Finding the right retailer to install your doors and windows is essential. Not only do you need to find a retailer with a solid reputation, you also need to find a company that can guide you through the latest window and door systems – what you have installed today needs to last at least ten years – if not longer.
So how do you find the right partner? Dave Barrett, chairman of the Certified Installer Network gives us his top tips:
“Word of mouth is a really good starting point. Ask local friends for recommendations, see if you can spot new windows and don’t be afraid to ask the home owner about their experience – they’ll be only too pleased to tell you – good and bad. Always make sure that your retailer has the appropriate accreditations or is a member of a recognised organisation such as the Certified Installer Network (CIN). Every member of the CIN, for example, has signed up to a strict code of conduct that governs how they operate. A CIN member will guide you through the process of choosing the right doors and windows that are right for your budget and needs. A CIN member will only offer you the latest innovations in door and window technology.
“There’s no question that some retailers will just want to sell you a like-for-like product, and that’s fine if that’s what you want. But if you’re looking for something to really add wow to your property ask your retailer to advise you about different types of windows – maybe woodgrain effect, coloured windows or perhaps if you’ve got a period property, perhaps transforming your property with a heritage window.
“Whichever retailer you choose, be confident in your choice, take your time and weigh up different retailers with pro’s and con’s. Ultimately make sure you’re well advised, happy that your windows meet your needs and will deliver effortless performance for years to come.”
